PMC proudly announces the launch of its Prodigy1 and Prodigy5 loudspeakers, representing a significant leap forward in audio technology. These speakers embody the essence of PMC's renowned reputation among leading music professionals and discerning audiophiles, now tailored for a broader audience.
The Prodigy series comprises two distinct models: the Prodigy1, a compact bookshelf or standmount design, and the Prodigy5, a compact floorstanding speaker. Both models feature an expertly crafted combination of a 27mm tweeter and 130mm bass driver, meticulously engineered to deliver unparalleled sound quality.
These speakers are the culmination of over three decades of research, development, and refinement, drawing inspiration from PMC's flagship QB1 studio monitors. Oliver Thomas, PMC's commercial director and head of design, emphasizes the lineage of the Prodigy series, stating, "Prodigy traces its roots back to the iconic PMC QB1 studio monitors. The technologies honed in the QB1, such as Laminair, have been seamlessly integrated into the Prodigy series, offering users a genuine studio experience in their own homes."
The Prodigy1 stands out as an ideal solution for small to medium-sized rooms, delivering dynamic sound performance synonymous with PMC's legacy. Its meticulously selected drive units, including a bass unit from the acclaimed PMC ci series and a soft dome tweeter derived from the PMC result6 studio monitors, ensure a true studio-quality listening experience.
The Prodigy5 is a compact floorstanding speaker that offers exceptional sound reproduction, filling any room with rich, immersive audio. Like its smaller counterpart, the Prodigy5 features PMC’s Advanced Transmission Line (ATL™) bass loading technology. This unique design uses energy that the bass unit generates in the most intelligent and efficient way to produce far deeper, tighter and more powerful bass than would otherwise be possible from a cabinet of this size and, additionally, through absorption of unwanted frequencies, creates a much clearer midrange.
Complementing the ATL™ is Laminair. This aerodynamically designed vent at the end of the line controls the air as it exits by dramatically reducing resistance, which increases efficiency and eliminates airflow noise. The result is a bass response with precise timing and an excellent dynamic range.
The long throw, natural fibre bass drive unit works hand-in-hand with the ATL as a coherent unit. It is fitted with an inverted dust-cap to reduce unwanted high-frequency reflections and the high-power voice coil and magnet assembly deliver unprecedented output levels for such compact speakers.
PMC's unwavering commitment to quality is evident in every aspect of the Prodigy series. Each speaker undergoes rigorous testing and calibration, ensuring that it meets PMC's exacting standards before leaving the factory. From individual drive unit testing to comprehensive listening tests, PMC spares no effort in delivering a superior audio experience to its customers.
Jeff Willcocks, CEO of PMC, reflects on the significance of the Prodigy series, stating, "Our journey to create the Prodigy series has been driven by a relentless pursuit of sonic transparency and neutrality. With these new loudspeakers, we have distilled decades of knowledge and expertise into a duo of speakers that bring the PMC performance to a wider audience."
The Prodigy series is available in a sleek Silk Black finish, with optional black fabric grilles for added customization. Whether you're a music enthusiast or a professional audio engineer, the Prodigy series offers an unparalleled listening experience that will elevate your appreciation of music to new heights.
