The Acoustic Energy Corinium is a high-performance three-way floorstanding loudspeaker developed to deliver greater scale, dynamics and musical involvement than any previous Acoustic Energy design.

Created over a three-year development programme, Corinium combines newly developed carbon fibre bass and midrange drivers, a lightweight 29mm soft dome tweeter, an advanced crossover and a heavily engineered Resonance Suppression Composite cabinet.

Three-Way Driver Design

Corinium uses a dedicated three-way driver configuration with a 120mm carbon fibre midrange driver and two 140mm carbon fibre bass drivers. The carbon fibre cones were developed specifically for Corinium and use a revised motor system designed to improve efficiency, control and transient response. By giving the midrange its own dedicated driver, vocals and instruments can be reproduced with greater clarity while the twin bass drivers concentrate on delivering depth, weight and scale.

29mm Soft Dome Tweeter

High frequencies are handled by a specially developed 29mm soft dome tweeter. Acoustic Energy selected the lightweight dome material to reduce moving mass and improve transient response, allowing fine detail to be reproduced with greater delicacy and refinement. Its smooth presentation complements the carbon fibre drivers, creating a coherent and natural balance across the frequency range.

Resonance Suppression Composite Cabinet

The Corinium cabinet is an important part of its design. Its curved RSC – Resonance Suppression Composite – construction uses walls ranging from approximately 22mm to 50mm thick to reduce unwanted cabinet vibration and colouration.

A rigid 6mm aluminium front baffle provides a solid mounting platform for the drive units, while the cabinet is angled backwards by four degrees to improve time alignment between the drivers and listening position. The result is a remarkably solid enclosure designed to let the drive units, rather than the cabinet, define the sound.

Carefully Developed Crossover

The Corinium crossover uses high-quality components including air-core inductors, polypropylene film capacitors and metal oxide resistors. Audiophile-grade internal cabling connects the crossover to the drivers, with the entire network developed alongside the drive units to maintain a smooth transition between bass, midrange and treble.

Crossover points are set at 260Hz and 3.4kHz, allowing each driver to operate comfortably within its optimal range.

High Sensitivity and Impressive Dynamics

With a sensitivity of 92dB, Corinium is relatively efficient for a high-end floorstanding loudspeaker - this allows it to produce impressive dynamic range without requiring exceptionally high amplifier power, although its 4-ohm impedance means it will perform best with a capable, high-quality amplifier.

Power handling is rated at up to 200 watts, giving Corinium considerable headroom for demanding music and higher listening levels.

Deep, Controlled Bass

The twin 140mm carbon fibre bass drivers work with a reflex-loaded cabinet to provide excellent low-frequency extension. Acoustic Energy specifies a frequency range extending down to 32Hz at -6dB, giving Corinium the ability to reproduce convincing bass depth without requiring an unusually large cabinet. The emphasis is not simply on bass quantity, but on speed, definition and control.
