The Spendor A4.2 is a slim two-way floorstanding loudspeaker designed to deliver a bigger, more dynamic and more authoritative sound while retaining the natural balance and easy room integration that define Spendor’s A-Line.

With a new 27mm soft dome tweeter, an 18cm EP77 polymer bass/mid driver, upgraded crossover network and refined cabinet damping, the A4.2 offers greater scale, openness and bass extension than the smaller A2.2 while remaining compact enough for normal living spaces.

New 27mm Soft Dome Tweeter

The A4.2 introduces Spendor’s new 27mm soft dome wide-surround rear-chambered tweeter. Developed to provide a more open and natural high-frequency response, it improves clarity, air and dynamic expression while maintaining the smooth, fatigue-free character associated with Spendor.

An upgraded crossover network helps integrate the tweeter seamlessly with the bass/mid driver.

18cm EP77 Bass/Mid Driver

A proprietary 18cm Spendor EP77 polymer cone driver handles both bass and midrange duties. Its larger surface area compared with the A2.2 gives the A4.2 greater scale, stronger bass and more effortless room-filling performance, while preserving the clean and natural midrange reproduction for which Spendor is known.

Enhanced Cabinet Damping

The A4.2 uses a rigid asymmetric cabinet with dynamic damping to minimise unwanted resonance. Spendor has also introduced constrained damping using Sorbothane around the driver and enclosure interface, helping prevent vibration from being transferred back into the cone and cabinet.

The result is a cleaner background, improved focus and more precise stereo imaging.

Refined Bass Reflex Loading

The bass reflex system has been carefully retuned to improve airflow, reduce port compression and minimise timing errors. This helps the A4.2 produce deep, controlled bass without sounding slow or overblown, even when positioned relatively close to a wall. Its typical in-room response extends down to 36Hz, giving it considerably more low-frequency authority than the smaller A-Line models.

Easy to Position and Drive

Despite its increased performance, the A4.2 remains relatively compact at just 861mm high and 165mm wide. With a nominal impedance of 6.75 ohms, a minimum of 5.4 ohms and a sensitivity of 85dB, it is designed to work comfortably with a wide variety of quality integrated amplifiers.

The Spendor A4.2 is ideal for listeners who want more bass, greater dynamic range and a larger soundstage than the A2.2, but still prefer a slim and unobtrusive floorstanding speaker.
